Creative Kids Playhouse offers a variety of programming for kids ages 5-18.
The Mainstage Players (ages 5-12) Most of our programming is for the Mainstage Players. One- and Two- act musicals written specifically for students in this age group to perform. Every student in each cast gets a speaking part. We produce two big two-act musicals for the Mainstage Players each year, one in the fall, one in the spring. Throughout the year we also offer one-act musicals, classes, and camps, with our signature show-in-a-week immersion camps in the summertime.
The Excalibur Players (7th-12th grade) Our most advanced troupe of performers, Excalibur Players work with more difficult material, and have much more expected of them. Usually Excalibur Players perform a big musical each spring with a Broadway script, and a full length straight play every summer. Excalibur Players are the core of the Camelot Players productions as well. A higher level of commitment and behavior is expected from the Excalibur Players, they are some of the best teens we know.
The Camelot Players (experienced 10 year olds – 12th grade) Also referred to as ‘Excalibur Players and Friends,’ students as young as 10 years old who have permission from the director may join the Excalibur Players in performing more advanced material. They perform two big events each year – The Best of Broadway – a musical review featuring each student as a lead in their scene – and a late fall musical with a Broadway level script. Workshops and camps may be offered at this level as well.
School Plays & Musicals – We produce school musicals for several schools across Orange County, and would be happy to add yours to our list. You provide the rehearsal and performance space and we can work together from there. Click on the School Plays & Musicals link to enroll in your school’s show!
Children Achieving Theatre Excellence (C.A.T.E.) Awards We recognize our exceptional students at our own awards show, often described as “The Tony’s for Kids.” Don’t miss the CATEs!
The Tom Thumb program for kids aged 3-6 is no longer active for the 2023/24 season. CKP will evaluate if that program returns in the future. Feel free to contact us if you have questions or feedback.
