My youngest daughter started out afraid to sing alone; holding her sister’s hand and singing auditions at a whisper. Now, she loves to perform, self-assured and bold. She recently won the Camelot Player of the Year award.  Participating in CKP productions has been life-changing.My girls have learned to feel strong and powerful, not only in the theatre, but in life. They are excelling in school and in their personal friendships and interactions. We have been with CKP for over 6 years, and consider it part of our family. We look forward to the coming years participating in future shows.                               – Heidi Garrel

CKP nurtures each individual child

After seeing the CATE Awards show, the word that comes to mind, that should always be associated with CKP is “Nurture.”   CKP nurtures each individual child, no matter what level they are.  What a fantastic community this creates. What a wonderful place for children to learn and grow.

A transformation had occurred

In fifth grade my outgoing, sweet son was floundering. He was being bullied at school, and struggling with his confidence in and out of the classroom. That fall he was in his first musical, and was in another in the spring. By the time sixth grade began I realized what a transformation had occurred. He began to walk taller, stand up for himself and be content being himself. His grades came up, possibly because he spoke up to his teachers when he needed help. The bullying ended. He has a nice group of friends, many of whom he met through Creative Kids Playhouse. He is now in eighth grade, succeeding in school and beginning to move toward other interests. The impact theater has had on his life is tremendous. I’m so happy for him, I know that he is equipped to be who he wants to be in life.

A life-changing experience

When I’d spy on my daughter in Kindergarten, she was often in the corner, struggling with her shyness. When the teacher called on her, her answer was a whisper. The first grade teacher gave the same feedback, on her fall report card was the request that she raise her hand more often.  Her first musical in the spring of first grade, The Wizard of Oz, was such a life-changing experience that her grandmother made her a commemorative quilt.  She had a very small part as one of the Yellow Brick Road Crew, a group of twelve kids ranging from grades 1-6. Being a key, valued member of this team that included upper graders was huge. She loved every minute of the production, and discovered a new confidence in herself.  A month later, when the lead of her classroom play announced that he didn’t know his lines, the teacher asked for a volunteer to take his place.  My little girl raised her hand, volunteered, and played the part with joy and confidence. I admit that I cried.

An overall stress-free program

My daughter always wanted to be in a play. She is bright, outgoing, loves to sing and has put on skits with the neighbor kids since she was five, it’s just the way she plays. Being in Creative Kids Playhouse productions is her dream come true. She loves every minute of every rehearsal and production.  She’s sad at every final curtain because the show is over. She has discovered her passion, I love seeing her constantly working on her part and seeking ways to improve- she doesn’t put that much energy into anything else! Her improvement in her performance ability over time is remarkable. She has made many wonderful friends who I’m certain will be important to her for years to come.  I love that CKP structures programs so that kids can be kids, with reasonable expectations of the child and family. The script choices, vocal ranges of songs, and time commitments requirements make it an overall stress-free program. And I love that CKP nurtures her passion!

“I never have to be afraid of that again!”

One fifth grade girl was terrified. She enjoyed the rehearsals, but was so scared of the idea of an audience that she asked for a very very small part. Even at dress rehearsal she asked with pleading eyes if she could drop out. I convinced her to just do the first of the three scheduled performances, and decide after that one.  She ran up to me after the final curtain of the first performance, beaming. “Mrs. Ramirez, Mrs. Ramirez, Guess what?!  I did it! And it was fun! And I never have to be afraid of that again!”  She is currently getting ready to audition for her third musical, and I’ve heard that she is hoping for the lead.

A Confidence Builder

Our son had struggled to find an activity that he felt he “belonged” in.  He had tried several sports and nothing clicked.  In third grade he saw a friend in a show with Creative Kids Playhouse and decided to give acting a shot.  His first part was in “Sleeping Beauty from the Witch’s Point of View” and he absolutely loved it!  He has been in several Creative Kids Playhouse productions since and has also participated in a musical theater workshop and a voice class that they offered.  It’s been such a confidence builder for him and he’s had a great time.  And the staff at Creative Kids Playhouse is so amazing!

Better than many high school musicals

The Excalibur Players production of Bye Bye Birdie was better than many high school musicals that I’ve seen. CKP’s best production to date.

It is part of who he is now

My son is hooked.  He is hooked on the fun, the confidence building, the challenge, the different roles he takes on and mostly the true friendships that have developed because of Creative Kids.   He loves it all.  It becomes a family for these kids, a second family if you will.  He was hesitant in the beginning, and once he performed  for the first time, he hasn’t looked back.  He has probably done 12 performances and that doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.  It is part of who he is now.  He is a well rounded great kid.  (if I do say so myself)  And who he is has a lot to do with Creative Kids Playhouse.

A teaching environment that makes her so happy

They say that the best thing in the world is seeing your children be happy. The joy my daughter exudes when she is on stage, at rehearsal with CKP, and practicing onstage is contagious. Thank you for creating a teaching environment that makes her so happy!

What our people are saying about us

We were struggling to find an activity that our daughter truly enjoyed when we saw our first flier for a CKP production.  Remembering how much she loved her little school performances, I signed her up.  She has been in every full production CKP has put on since then (a total of 8 now) and has loved every single one of them.  Her personal growth as a little actress has been so much fun to watch and to see her doing well at something she truly enjoys is every parent’s dream.
